Surviving to raise her voice
In 2012, Malala Yousafzai, who raised her voice to advocate for girls' rights to education and expose the violence of Taliban control. On October 9th, she survived an assassination attempt by the Taliban while she was on a bus in Pakistan. She was hospitalized in Birmingham, England for her gunshot injury in head and neck. Nine months after being shot, she gave a speech at the United Nations. Malala said that they had thought bullets would silence them, but that they had failed, and that from that silence, thousands of voices had emerged. In 2014, Malala Yousafzai won Nobel Peace Prize, becoming the youngest person to receive it. Nowadays, many people believe that if more leaders listened to young activists like Malala, the world would be a better place for girls everywhere.
