1997
Malala Yousafzai was born on July 12, 1997, in Mingora, Pakistan, she grew up with her parents and her two brothers in the city where she was born.

Ziauddin Yousafzai is the poet and teacher who ran and taught at a girls' school in his hometown.
2008
If the Taliban had not taken control of her town in 2008, Malala would have continued going to school with her father and her classmates.
In this year, The radical Taliban arrived and banned girls from going to school.
In January of that year, Malala said goodbye to her classmates. Unable to accept the fate that was being imposed on her, Malala began speaking about the right to education in different parts of the country, despite the danger it involved.
2009
Malala started writing for the BBC. Before she began, her father had to quit his job due to concerns expressed by family members.
If they hadn't advised the young girl to write under a pseudonym, she wouldn't have written as 'Gul Makai,' the name she chose when she was only 11 years old.
Her first post was published in January 2009. She would write her notes by hand and then give them to a reporter, who would scan them and send them via email.
2012
Malala continued writing for the BBC and promoting her ideals. She gave a public speech to try to restore them. This made her a target of the Taliban.
